Love Notes to Newton
Director's note:
This film represents the heart of what I would like folkl.org to be. It's my first feature-length documentary, and came about because I wanted a) to make a doc, and b) wanted to tell a great story about something I love. It's a huge privilege to do something like this, and to this day I'm really proud of the fact that I made this film, and the fact that it really captures an important zeitgeist of the time, in hindsight it's an intersection of the old world and the new, and I'm so glad I could capture some of these stories before they pass from memory.
About the film:
Newton was the first mass-produced touchscreen handheld computer made by Apple. It only lasted a few years on the market (1993 to 1998), but that wasn’t because it sucked! A large community of people still love Newton, and this film is an homage to the little device(s) by the people who still remember and even still use one.
Some quotes from people who've seen the film:
“It is three in the morning, and I have to rise in 3 hours to go to work. I should have been sleeping for hours. But I couldn’t stop watching. This film is fantastic.”
-Frank Gruendel, Newton User
“I’m addicted to your movie!”
